in it for the long haul…

well, i decided to try something a few weeks ago, and now i’m about a week and a half into it, and all i can see is a lot of ink and paper to come…and a lot more thoughtful reading of Scripture in the process. As of today, i have written out Genesis 1:1 through 4:12. normally re-writing anything shouldn’t take that much time. and if i was just trying to write it for writing’s sake, i could run through things a lot faster. but i’ve purchased my first of many journals, my first of many bottles of ink, and a set of pen handles and nibs. i am trying to learn to write with a calligraphy set in the process of writing out the whole Bible from star tto finish. i’m not doing this to show it to anyone, or to sound impressive. i’m doing this as a discipline for myself, and for a better understanding of the Scriptures. it has been several years since i read the Bible straight through, and at the pace i’m moving today, it will be well more than a year or two to complete this task. but i’m looking forward to it…

so far, it has enabled me to gain a much better mental picture of each instance that’s recorded for us, and to get a grip on the emotion of the moment. that alone is a great benefit to me. it’s making everything more personal and real, and if that is the only thing i get from this experience, then it will be worth all the time and effort and ink and paper. but i know that a better understanding will come from this as well, and hopefully an increase in wisdom and discernment as well.

so for the time being, i will try to continue my journaling on here, to maintain that discipline as well. i want to put my thoughts down for the sake of review and also to make sure that i am responding to the Scripture i encounter each day as well…
