genesis 7-8 :: the waters recede and the big exit
not to knock a project that someone spent time on, but i’m going to knock a project soeone did’t spend enugh time on…the noah miniseries (nbc) from a few years back was one of the worst made for tv efforts i have ever seen. i really enjoy “b” level movies and bad c.g. monster flicks, but the w.s.o.g.m.m. (whole sort of general mish-mash) that became was just beyond stupid. if snl takes the time to make fun of a miniseries, it must be bad…and they did.
i still have trouble comprehending – just comprehending- what noah and his family went through during this whole process. i cannot imagine what images they had in their mind as they knew people were dying, and the terrible waiting until they heard the bottom of the boat hit land months later. then not knowing where they were, or what they would find when they came out. of the ark.
this wasn’t a pleasure cruise, and this wasn’t the clean, public park, zoo environment that children’s toys make it out to be…these animals were eating while on board, and after they ate, natural processes must have taken place. There would have been odors, and all manner of nastiness piling up on one end of the boat. again, this would not be pretty. but God never promises us that the hard times would be. He never said that following Him would be roses and perfume and warm summer breezes.
noah’s family had a lot to deal with on that boat, and plenty to keep them busy. fortunately, God at least gave them that. there was plenty of animal care to keep them busy as time wore on, and they longed to see sky again and feel a clean air around them. but they didn’t just sit down and give up. even when things got difficult. there was a job to do, and there were responsibilities to be met, so they did them.
today we whine when our schedule gets messed up a little, or things don’t happen as we see fit. i wish sometimes that we could mentally take trips back in time to see what people have had to endure in order for us to be where we are today. a little perspective would be good from time to time.
