so, about a month ago i started a project for myself. it was an excersie in discipline, and so far i am not impressed with myself. i don’t have trouble reading Scripture, and throughout this, that hasn’t been the problem. the problem is this: i wanted to write out the entire Bible, and to make it special i was learning calligraphy in the process. if i was going to write out the entire Word of God, i thought i might as well do it with some style, and make it look nice. this way i could benefit in two ways, better understanding of Scripture and learn a new skill. i got to about genesis 8, and fell off the wagon. i was well meaning, i REALLY wanted to do this, but man…epic fail.
So, i’m wondering if i just read straight through because it had been a while since i had gone straight through, or do i pick up my pen and ink and try again? i want to do this, but it is time consuming. beth had suggested getting the cartridge style pens so i wouldn’t have to deal with all the mess involved in dipping the nub and cleaning everything back up when i was done.
i don’t want to bail on this, writing each and every word was really beneficial. i was getting an even better vantage point on just what was happening in each verse. my visualization was fantastic, and my emotional grasp of each situation was getting deeper. it was becoming intimate and personal, and i was loving it…
i think that answers that, then. i will pick it back up. i will start writing again, and not just reading. i will make the time, and while i may not dip into the ink to write again i will pick it back up.
it is worth the time, and the discipline is always needed. i finished reading through mark in the meantime, and so now i will pick back up in genesis…
it will be a long process, but i’m up for it.
