if your boss came into your workspace, and you were in the middle of a game of bejeweled, or checking your facebook, how quick would you close out that browser? if you were driving down the road, and saw a dog crossing the road right in front of you, how quick would you put on your brakes? if you saw that your house was on fire, how quick would you call 911? in all three cases i would think you would do it as quickly as possible. why? well, you could get fired, kill someone’s pet or lose your home. all three of those situations require a quick reaction.
when Jesus approaches andrew, peter, james & john about following Him, they drop everything right then and there in order to go along with Him. they did it without delay. he called them and there was an immediate response. it may have been like that for you when Jesus called you to follow Him. you felt the tug on your heart, and you responded. sometimes people take a while to process things, and that can be okay. but the best response is always a quick one. Jesus isn’t afraid of our questions, doubts and concerns. He had plenty of them coming from His disciples as they walked together and as He continued to teach them, They didn’t instantly know everything when Jesus called them. They didn’t come to a full understanding of who He was, what their own roles were or how this whole new life was supposed to work. But they followed Him without delay.
When God gives us a task to accomplish, we need to get after it with the same sense of urgency. What happens to us, when in the course of our walk with Jesus, we start to tell God “not now” or “maybe later?” what arrogance have we accumulated for ourselves! when the subjects tell the Master when, where and how they are going to do things…what has gone wrong here?
wake up Church! drop the pride from your shoulders and head. get your priorities straight. remember your first love, and how you responded then…and do the same again today. quit assuming that you are in charge at all…like you have some sort of say above God’s desire and will. wake up Church, without delay!
