when one person is two of a kind

(unmarked journal entry)

there are many things in Scripture that we will have to wait on for understanding. others have already been explained. when the people of Israel rejected God as their leader and begged for a king, they tried to run the physical and spiritual sides of their lives separately. they acted as though they had 2 lives…and we do the same still today.

trying to live 2 distiinct but simultaneous lives cannot be done for long, and neither will be done well.

but when Jesus came, He recombined those severed halves. He re-meshed the heart and hand, the spirit and physical sides of life so that we weren’t left trying to live as a split personality. His role as Priest and King in our lives rejoins those severed and sickly halves of our existence so that we can live a whole life. a life of obedience in everything possible.

there is no hiding away of one half or the other. we are whole people under the whole reign of our High Priest King whose control extends into all areas of our heart, soul and mind. we are His possession, His subjects, and no amount of pretending will change that…we must be a whole offering to Him.

it is when we try to maintain these divided lives that we earn the name ‘hypocrite’ for ourselves, an most grievously misrepresent Jesus. Jesus does not bring division into our lives. He brings wholeness. The only thing He wants divided from us is our sin…which is obviously not a bad thing by anyone’s reckoning.

so, we must ask ourselves daily what we are going to be: wholly His or a divided, struggling, self-sufficient worker. it does us no end of good to release our kung-fu grip on our old lives in order to accept the work of our Priestly King in our day-to-day lives. His wholeness is a beautiful and freeing thing, and it is ready for the taking each day.
