What’s the last thing you will focus on tonight?
What is your parting thought for this day, a day you cannot return to, a day you cannot ‘re-do’?
Is is filled in numbly by a television?
Is it imparted by a few last clicks online?
Is it a review of the day?
Is it a recall of God’s faithfulness?
Is it a consuming worry for the coming day?
Is it a prayer for a wandering family member?
Is it concern for a spiritually dead friend?
Is it a prayer of thanksgiving?
Is it a warm thought for your spouse?
It it a seeking for purpose?
Do you avoid thinking too much late at night? Are you frightened by the quiet hours and the darkness?
Find your rest tonight in Christ.
Come to Him with your joys and trials.
Come to Him with you worries and fears.
Give Him your hurts and concerns.
Give Him your stresses and your angst.
Find peace in Him.
Real. Abiding. Peace.
Meditate on Him. Dwell in these quiet moments with Him. Silence the enemy’s noise with the comfort of His embrace.
He is love
He is peace
He is our rest
“Answer me when I call,
O God of my righteousness!
You have given me relief when I was in distress.
Be gracious to me and hear my prayer!
O men, how long shall my honor be turned into shame?
How long will you love vain words and seek after lies?
Selah
But know that the Lord has set apart the godly for himself;
the Lord hears when I call to him.
Be angry, and do not sin;
ponder in your own hearts on your beds, and be silent.
Selah
Offer right sacrifices, and put your trust in the Lord.
There are many who say,
“Who will show us some good? Lift up the light of your face upon us, O Lord!”
You have put more joy in my heart than they have when their grain and wine abound.
In peace I will both lie down and sleep;
for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.
