Plant your heart by the streams of God // Psalm 1

“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
but his delight is in the law of the Lord,
and on his law he meditates day and night.
He is like a tree planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers.
The wicked are not so,
but are like chaff that the wind drives away.
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
for the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.”
Psalm 1:1-6 ESV

What are you focusing on? The focal point of our heart determines the course of our daily lives, our attitudes and our actions. This is our motivation.

Where will your efforts go today? Our daily worship is produced by this effort. Are we worshipping at the altar of self-determination? Do we bow down to the the god of ‘Hey, it’s something to do.’ Or do our efforts in all things belong to The Lord?

Where have you rooted your heart? The point of this sis to remind ourselves where our heart is daily rooted. You cannot have it planted with God on Sunday mornings, and then Monday-Saturday tear it up and replant it wherever you please. A plant that is not allowed to take root, to acclimate, will never grow, it will never mature. In fact, it will probably die. If we do not root out heart with God, planted by His streams, the reality is that we will never mature in Him. We can want it until we are blue in the face, but if we keep transplanting our hearts, we will wither and fail.

We must ask God to plant our hearts with Him and then give us the patience and strength to leave it there with Him. Daily tending, daily He waters. Daily growing little-by-little, roots moving outward, stability being gained.
In Him we thrive.

When we go out everyday into the fields He has provided for us, whether home or work or school, we will have the strength to GoLove people from the health of spirit that comes from living in His garden.

Solomon and his wife refer to their relationship as a garden all throughout the ‘Song of Solomon.’ It is something to be tended, cared for and nutured. Out relationship with God is the same. We cannot neglect it and expect it to grow. We cannot allow weeds to grow (or plant them ourselves) and expect it to be a place of beauty. The world does not belong in our garden. It is simply a place for us to dwell with God, to enjoy one another and to find our rest.

Keep it tended. Keep it clear. Water it daily & watch it grow.
