“Then he said to them, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be great earthquakes, and in various places famines and pestilences. And there will be terrors and great signs from heaven.
But before all this they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors for my name’s sake. This will be your opportunity to bear witness.
Settle it therefore in your minds not to meditate beforehand how to answer, for I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which none of your adversaries will be able to withstand or contradict. You will be delivered up even by parents and brothers and relatives and friends, and some of you they will put to death. You will be hated by all for my name’s sake. But not a hair of your head will perish. By your endurance you will gain your lives.”
Luke 21:10-19 ESV
When is the best time to share Jesus? When is our message most clear?
“I will break the gate-bar of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitants from the Valley of Aven, and him who holds the scepter from Beth-eden; and the people of Syria shall go into exile to Kir,” says the Lord.” (Amos 1:5 ESV)
When life is stressful, when our defenses our down. When we fear for our lives and when we, for all intents and purposes, stand alone. When there is nothing but the rawness of us left and the pretenses have been stripped away, when our gate-bar has been broken and we fell like we have been sent into exile. When the only thing holding us up is God Himself, them we will be at our best.
That is not to say that we must be hurt to be effective, or that we must be in distress to speak clearly. But when we are humble, when we acknowledge our dependence on the One who gives us breath, when we say, ‘I cannot do this anymore! God help me!’ When we know we are defendant on Him for our survival, then our message travels unhindered.
“Put not your trust in princes, in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation. When his breath departs, he returns to the earth; on that very day his plans perish.” (Psalm 146:3, 4 ESV)
Putting our trust in other human beings will always leave us short. We are fallible, and we are finite. Our understanding is short lived and our plans are often short sighted.
“Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob,
whose hope is in the Lord his God,
who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them,
who keeps faith forever;
who executes justice for the oppressed,
who gives food to the hungry.
The Lord sets the prisoners free;
the Lord opens the eyes of the blind.
The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down;
the Lord loves the righteous.
The Lord watches over the sojourners;
he upholds the widow and the fatherless,
but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin.
The Lord will reign forever, your God, O Zion, to all generations.
Praise the Lord!”
(Psalm 146:5-10 ESV)
Our best opportunities to bear witness is when we have no more words of our own, when we simply stand in Christ and allow His Spirit to speak. When we are weak and frail and stand in the rawness of who we are and make ourselves available in the right place at the right time for God.
And since only He knows those times and places, it becomes a matter of daily humbling ourselves and being open to His perfect guidance and love.
Every day, humbly available to GoLove with the blessed words of faith He affords us.
He is our strength.
He is our witness.
He is our hope & our rock of salvation.
