“When Israel went out from Egypt,
the house of Jacob from a people of strange language,
Judah became his sanctuary, Israel his dominion.
The sea looked and fled; Jordan turned back.
The mountains skipped like rams, the hills like lambs.
What ails you, O sea, that you flee?
O Jordan, that you turn back?
O mountains, that you skip like rams?
O hills, like lambs?
Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord,
at the presence of the God of Jacob,
who turns the rock into a pool of water,
the flint into a spring of water.”
Psalm 114:1-8 ESV

When we seek out God, when we ask Him to move, are we asking Him to do so in our ways and with our power? Do we seek out the One who splits seas and rivers and whose voice makes the mountains tremble or are we scared and seek so much less?

What happens if God really moves in our midst? What happens if we stand face to face and mind to mind with the perfectly just King of the Universe? What happens if we actually engage with Him? Do we want to be in control, or do we seek God to rule and guide us? We may say things like, “He created the sun, moon and stars.” But we do not consider the weight of those words. We reduce God to concept, and do not speak of Him in hushed tones or with the awe that we should.

Become close with God, live intimately with Him, abide daily in His love, but do not presume to become ‘familiar’ with Him as if you know all His ways and can comprehend all His deeds. Have respect. Live in awe and wonder of His greatness. Do not think for a moment that the closeness you feel with Him is someone thing you have earned, figured out or deserve.

Do not cheapen Him by speaking easily and quickly of Him without thought or consideration. Do not be flippant with the Name.

“Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory,
for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness!”

“O Israel, trust in the Lord! He is their help and their shield.
O house of Aaron, trust in the Lord! He is their help and their shield.
You who fear the Lord, trust in the Lord! He is their help and their shield.
The Lord has remembered us; he will bless us;
he will bless the house of Israel;
he will bless the house of Aaron;
he will bless those who fear the Lord, both the small and the great.”
Psalm 115:1, 9-13 ESV

Speak of God gladly, praise His Name daily and do it with joy. Revel in Him. Rejoice in Him. Let your mind spin in wonder of Him. Bless Him. Lift Him up and sing about the wonderful things He has done. But fear Him as you do so. Hold Him in highest regard and respect. Enjoy His grace, mercy and love, but do not treat Him lightly or speak His Name in vain.

He has shown us great love by sending Jesus to carry our sin, and by sending His Holy Spirit to indwell us and provide us comfort, wisdom and peace. His almighty and perfect will guides us, and we seek His glory every day. Because He first loved us, we GoLove others in return.

Because He wills it, we live another day.
Use it well to serve Him.
Be bold in your faith and show love in your words.
