“And I, when I came to you, brothers, did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God with lofty speech or wisdom. For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. And I was with you in weakness and in fear and much trembling, and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.”
1 Corinthians 2:1-5 ESV
There is nothing wrong with intellect. There is no harm in study. There are great benefits to examination of the Scriptures and gathering all the knowledge God has to offer. Being driven by the desire to know Him better, to draw closer to Him and to dedicate our minds and hearts to Him, we seek Him through His Word, study and prayer.
Those are noble pursuits, and should be well respected. They are definitely better than just zoning out in front of the television every night and being constantly influenced by the world in your free time. Read. Draw close to God. Focus on Him & share what you have learned.
But remember this: even the most charismatic speaker and the wisest teacher must rely on the Spirit of God to move if they are going to witness to a single, solitary other human being. We don’t come to witness with our ‘vast intellegence’ we come bearing the simple message of Christ crucified, buried and resurrected. It isn’t our own power words, it is the power of the love of God expressed through the hearts of HIs redeemed children to those who are lost.
You don’t have to be a Billy Graham or an Albert Mohler to communicate God’s message effectively. You simply need to trust in the message that introduced salvation to you, and trust in the power of the One who saved you to save the soul of another through you. It’s not my power or your power, but the power of Jesus Christ and the Gospel message.
If you can trust God to save you, you can trust Him to speak through you.
The enemy lies and tells you the cross is not enough, that your story with Christ is not enough and he feeds those lies to you over and over and over again until you begin to believe it. Every nonbeliever out there suddenly becomes a Dawkins or a Hitchens ready to debate and we are convinced that our faith will not hold up, we will be humiliated and that the cross will be emptied of its power.
Get behind us satan! Your lies are hollow and empty and there is nothing more compelling than love’s greatest victory!
Go be bold.
Go share.
Go build relationships.
Go be an ambassador for Christ.
Go in faith.
Go in strength.
Go in power.
Go in hope.
Go because you have been commissioned to go.
Go because the world needs you.
Go because Christ compels you.
Go because the lies of the enemy need to be crushed in their lives, too.
GoLove as you have been loved.
This matters more than anything else.
Go.
Christ is enough.
Have faith.
