Walk the talk // Paul’s 1st letter to the church in Corinth // chapter 4

“For the kingdom of God does not consist in talk but in power.”
1 Corinthians 4:20 ESV

Our lives in Christ are not simply exhibited by what we say, but in the action we carry out. This shouldn’t be a revolutionary statement for us, but it is something that we do not always follow through with as through we truly know it.

We can talk a good game, answer the right questions and express intelligent thoughts, but do we follow through? James admonishes us to not just be hearers of the Word, as if that to would save us in and of itself, but to be doers of the Word. This lived out follow through is what determines our heart’s condition. This is the evidence of our loyalty to Christ. Are we simply paying lip service, or do we believe what we claim to hold dear?

The Kingdom of God, therefore, is not just a matter of talk, but of power. It must be lived out, acted upon and done from the depths of the heart. It is expressed in our daily actions, in our service to others, in our words we share, in our humble attitudes and in our love for the unloved. The Kingdom of God is not simply concept or a list of discussion points, it is a life lived. It is obedience. It is commitment. It is not obligation. It is not compulsion.

It is rooted in love and loyalty, in appreciation and thanksgiving. It is not simply words spoken, but power exhibited in daily motion and conviction.

As we GoLove others for the sake of Christ, this is what let’s them see this is real to us, and not just a checklist of religious ‘to do’s’ that we must accomplish for the sake of ego and esteem. This heartfelt conviction propels us forward in the power that only God’s Spirit provides.

The proof is in the pudding, as it were…
