“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:4, 6-7 ESV
Paul doesn’t say this to infer that God is like an overindulgent grandparent or that He is a genie simply waiting for our requests. This isn’t about seeking health and wealth for ourselves or wanting to ‘live our best life now’ in a self-centered kind of way.
Instead, the heart that seeks God, that desires to walk according to His will and purpose, when that heart comes to Him seeking His glory and seeking to live according to His plan, when in those moments we seek His provision, we need only to ask and He will provide what He knows we need according to His timing. So, in this way, don’t be anxious about anything, but give God all your concerns and cares and worries and let Him move.
When we live and move in Him in this way, trusting Him for provision and His care and seeking to abide in His love, then we will find that peace of His. This promised peace isn’t promised for us in our selfishness, but in our seeking of Him. He isn’t going to keep is peaceful as we wander from Him or as we seek our own ways. His peace is meant to be for those who shelter in Him, who walk according to His ways. For those of us who dwell in His grace, according to His promises in Christ, this peace is part of our daily strength and comfort. This peace is what helps propel us forward, even in the darkest hours we experience.
So, seek Him out and find Hs provision and peace along the way. It is promised for those who follow in the footsteps of His Son, Jesus. Pray, speak with Him daily, and seek out His will. Live humbly according to His plan and purpose and see if He doesn’t empower you to GoLove others in the same way He has been loving you. Trust in Him. He cares for you.
