Walk worthy and in grace // Colossians 1

“And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.”
Colossians‬ ‭1‬:‭9-10‬ ESV

‘…so as to walk in a manner worthy…’

It’s not fun to admit when we’re wrong. It’s a point of pride and the human ego can be a powerful and poisonous thing. When we don’t discuss ideas, theories, theology, politics, etc. with people, or when we are only ever reinforced by people we place around ourselves who sound and act like us, we can enter into a dangerous ego-stroking pattern of behavior.

And when it comes to walking worthy of Christ, ego has nothing to do with the enhancement of our walk. Instead, we should always be ready to learn more, to dig deeper and to balance our own thoughts and ideas against Scripture. Scripture comes directly from the mouth of God through the hands of His chosen disciples. What they wrote is not from themselves, but from Him and stands as infallible. Scripture is our authority. And even when we think we have it all right, we should always continue to study and pray and seek His wisdom, humbly admitting our own faults and biases.

There is hope in the Word. There is strength in its authority over us. And when we walk according to what we find there, we will find that God has equipped us to walk worthy of Christ, through His grace and through His teachings and statutes.

“May you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy, giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”
Colossians‬ ‭1‬:‭11-14‬ ESV

When we walk according to Scripture and in a way worthy of Christ, we will find strength. Strength for the day, strength for times of sorrow, strength in patience and and strength in the joy in which we abide. This is part of our glorious inheritance and evidence that His Kingdom is moving and active here among us. This strength is proof that He moves among. His children and the bride of Christ. His Spirit moves and walks with us, indwelling those who die to self and find new life, baptized into Christ. It is our joy and refuge to walk worthy and to tell about the One who has qualified us for this marvelous inheritance. It is not by any work we have done hat we are promised salvation, or the ability to walk worthy, but only through His power, grace, mercy and love that we have this priveledge.

GoLove others in a way that is worthy of Christ and share that blessed hope that you have found in Him.
