Hebrews 7 // Our Great, Eternal Intercessor & High Priest

“22 So Jesus has also become the guarantee of a better covenant.
23 Now many have become Levitical priests, since they are prevented by death from remaining in office. 24 But because He remains forever, He holds His priesthood permanently. 25 Therefore, He is always able to save those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to intercede for them.
26 For this is the kind of high priest we need: holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens. 27 He doesnt need to offer sacrifices every day, as high priests do — first for their own sins, then for those of the people. He did this once for all when He offered Himself. 28 For the law appoints as high priests men who are weak, but the promise of the oath, which came after the law, appoints a Son, who has been perfected forever.”
Hebrews 7:22-28

This is just amazingly good news! In faith, we do not need to worry. In faith, we find security. In faith, we find an assurance that cannot be found elsewhere. While the secular world wonders and struggles and is forced to cope with the gaping maw of death on their own, we find hope beyond the door and comfort in our eternal destination. We know that Christ Himself waits for us, ready to stand as our defense and the intercessor between us and judgment.

Men can only stand for so long, death takes us all. But Christ stands eternally as our defender when we are baptized into Him, carrying crosses alongside Him and trusting in Him in faith. This hope sustains, encourages and drives us forward because it brings life, it breeds purpose and it compels us to share it. To GoLove in His Name is to echo this great grace and mercy through all generations and all peoples, which is His calling for us.

His sacrifice has made it all possible, all worthwhile. Our present sufferings are not worth comparing to that wondrous glory that will one day be revealed in us, and even today is at work in those who believe. His Spirit brings us healing, wholeness and points our hearts toward heaven. His Holy Spirit instructs us in the will of the Father so that we will not sin, but instead use our lives as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing, in worship to Him. We know He stands for us, and that He goes with us, and that is blessing beyond understanding.

Thanks be to God who lifts us up, who sustains us and who gives us such great hope beyond the grave. What an amazing love He has shown to us that we no longer see death and something fearsome, but as a simple point of passing into something so much better. It helps us to use each moment here with more purpose, more intention, as we see that those moments are to be used for Him to thank Him and glorify Him, because this is a gift of love to all who believe.
