Psalm 56 // Even in the midst, God is for me

Daily life has its uncertainties. Situations, once secure, change. An unexpected right cross from a ‘friend’, a jab from someone you trusted. Guilt from sins long forgiven and sorrow caused by a stranger on a day meant for joy. Life has its uncertainties. But we cannot dwell on the possibility of uncertainty.

Instead, we turn to God, we seek Him out. He is our refuge, our constant. He is our fortress and our safe haven. We set out with Him in the morning and return with Him at night. He is our companion, when no others will be. He is our strength before we even realize our weaknesses. He protects us from enemies and ourselves. And inasmuch as we may think we have control, He is our reminder that there is indeed something far more grand than our contrivances, and He is it.

But where He is strength, force and Justice, He is also the One who commands the breeze, nurtures the orchid and syncopated the rain. He is force and beauty, command and love. He is our all in all , and when none else stand with us, we can be glad in Him. When we are oppressed, He lightens us. When we are sad, He reveals His arm of support. He is our everything, the Joy of Life for all who trust in Him. We rest secure in His embrace. GoLove as He has loved today.

A Call for Gods Protection
For the choir director: according to A Silent Dove Far Away. A Davidic Miktam. When the Philistines seized him in Gath.

“1 Be gracious to me, God, for man tramples me;
he fights and oppresses me all day long.
2 My adversaries trample me all day,
for many arrogantly fight against me.

3 When I am afraid,
I will trust in You.
4 In God, whose word I praise,
in God I trust; I will not fear.
What can man do to me?

5 They twist my words all day long;
all their thoughts against me are evil.
6 They stir up strife, they lurk;
they watch my steps
while they wait to take my life.

7 Will they escape in spite of such sin?
God, bring down the nations in wrath.
8 You Yourself have recorded my wanderings.
Put my tears in Your bottle.
Are they not in Your records?

9 Then my enemies will retreat on the day when I call.
This I know: God is for me.
10 In God, whose word I praise,
in the Lord, whose word I praise,
11 in God I trust; I will not fear.
What can man do to me?

12 I am obligated by vows to You, God;
I will make my thank offerings to You.
13 For You delivered me from death,
even my feet from stumbling,
to walk before God in the light of life.”
