Psalm 79:9 // What the repentant heart asks for

“9 God of our salvation, help us —
for the glory of Your name.
Deliver us and atone for our sins,
because of Your name.”
Psalm 79:9

The heart of a repentant person turns focus away from itself and points toward God. It realizes its offense and Who has been offended by it. It is not selfish, self-centered or inwardly focused, but sees and understands what its offense means and seeks reconciliation with God and His glory instead.

This is the hallmark of repentance, a humble and contrite heart that seeks the glory of God above all else. When it is still all about us, we are not yet where we need to be to see repentance do its work in our hearts. We do seek forgiveness and restoration for ourselves in our repentance, but that is still done to glorify God. It’s not about us, first, but Him.

As we GoLove people in the Name of our great God, our repentant hearts will be obvious signs of the work that He has done, glorifying Him. It is never about us, not for a moment, all glory and praise belongs to Him.
