A psalm of Asaph.
1 “God has taken His place in the divine assembly;
He judges among the gods:
2 ‘How long will you judge unjustly
and show partiality to the wicked?’ Selah
3 ‘Provide justice for the needy and the fatherless;
uphold the rights of the oppressed and the destitute.
4 Rescue the poor and needy;
save them from the power of the wicked.’
5 They do not know or understand;
they wander in darkness.
All the foundations of the earth are shaken.
6 I said, ‘You are gods;
you are all sons of the Most High.
7 However, you will die like men
and fall like any other ruler.’
8 Rise up, God, judge the earth,
for all the nations belong to You.”
Psalm 82
—
We must always weigh our judgments against the statutes of God. We must seek His ways above our own. Pride wants us to assume that we already make the right call in any situatiion, but wisdom tells us to seek out God’s ways first.
Too many times we assume that God would have things done the way we want them done. As if our first inclination is always correct. We cannot listen to our hearts, they are prideful. We cannot listen only to our fears, they betray faith. Instead, we seek God’s righteous judgment, and ask Him to lead us in our judgments and thoughts.
Time spent in prayer and His Word will always guide us toward His righteousness, and the heart that consults the Lord will walk in wisdom.
