Have you seen this? It’s amazing! // Matthew 13

“But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear. For truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.”
Matthew 13:16-17 NIV

When it comes to the Kingdom of God, heaven at work in us and around us, we often miss out on what is actually happening because we are looking for other signs of its coming. Just like the people in Jerusalem wanted their Messiah to kick out the Romans, we often expect certain things when it comes to the Kingdom band because of that we miss out on what is actually occurring all around us.

How often do you express to God that you want things to happen in a certain way, only to find that He has worked them out in another? All the time right? His ways are higher than our ways. Hs plans are always better than ours. We know this, and yet we still get frustrated when it doesn’t happen the way we want or in the timing we expect.

How is it that we look at the Kingdom of God and see something negative? How is it that we experience what the forebears of our faith longed to see and we somehow see it with eyes of disappointment? Who is feeding us this nonsense attitude and these ridiculous ideas? I’ll give you three guesses and the last two don’t count.

When we listen to the enemy, when we feed on his distractions, even the best that God has to offer seems somehow tainted. We say things like, ‘Yeah, that’s great and all, but…’ or ‘That seems nice for now, but what I’m really looking forward to is…’

Seriously? Did we just dismiss the handiwork of God? Did we dare to think that our plans were better or that we had a better understanding of how things really should go? Did the created question the Creator’s sovreignty, wisdom and love?

That, my friends is pride, the same raw, base attitude that expelled lucifer from the angelic host in the first place. It has no place in the life of those who have been purchased from death and raised into new life.

It’s one thing to wonder how God works, to seek out His ways and to examine His will. It’s another to arrogantly assume that His will and ways aren’t good enough for us, or that He somehow doesn’t meet our expectations.

Blessed are you when you see and hear, because that means that your heart is focused on Him and not on self. Blessed are you when you see and hear, because that means that you have resigned your will to His. Blessed are you when you see and hear, because that means that you have really and truly died to self and found life in Christ. Blessed are you when you see and hear, because that means that you are not taking for granted the things of heaven. Blessed are you when you see and hear, because you have recognized the need for your own humility. Blessed are you when you see and hear, because you have begun to understand the fuller nature of grace at work in you and around you.

So, as you GoLove others and live out the work of the Kingdom, seek out God’s timing, His wisdom and His ways. See, hear and appreciate whet He is doing, how the Holy Spirit is moving and how the Church is serving her King.
